Trump makes closing pitch with insult-laden Michigan rally

Donald Trump made his closing pitch to supporters while knocking several of his opponents in his last rally of the presidential election on Monday night.

“It’s unbelievable. Think of it. This is it. This is the last one that we’re gonna have to do,” Trump said at the outset of his campaign event in Grand Rapids, Mich., which lasted nearly two hours.

Trump used his speech to criticize Vice President Harris, calling her a “radical left lunatic who destroyed San Francisco” and questioning her crowd size at campaign events.

He also attacked Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as a “crazy, horrible human being” and at one point alluded to the word “b—-,” saying “she’s a crooked person. She’s a bad person, evil. She’s an evil, sick, crazy, oh no — it starts with a B, but I won’t say it. I wanna say it!”

He also criticized Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who has drawn Trump’s ire after participating in the first House impeachment trial against him and sitting on the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot. Trump referred to the California Democrat as “shifty Schiff” and “pencil neck.”

“He’s an unattractive guy, both inside and out, and this guy can end up being a senator,” Trump mused, noting that Schiff is running for the full six-year Senate term to succeed Sen. Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.).

Trump started his rally close to two hours behind schedule after participating in three rallies earlier in the day. He previously made stops in Raleigh, N.C.; Reading, Pa.; and Pittsburgh, Pa., before ending the night in Michigan.

The former president, whose speech veered from random asides to typical campaign pitches, cast a vote for Harris as a further step backwards for the country.

“If you vote for Lyin’ Kamala, you will have four more years of misery, failure and disaster our country may never recover from. I don’t believe that our country can take any more of this,” Trump said.

He spoke fondly of Elon Musk, who has endorsed him and been actively campaigning for him. Trump also recounted a conversation he had with his doctor after he was pierced in the ear during an assassination attempt in Butler, Pa. He also vowed impose a 100 percent tariff on cars made in Mexico coming into the U.S., adding “And if that’s not enough, I’ll make it 200, 300, 500, eight — I don’t give a damn what it is.”

Michigan represents one of the seven critical battleground states that will determine whether Trump or Harris returns to the White House next year. An aggregate of Michigan surveys compiled by Decision Desk HQ shows Harris narrowly leading Trump at close to 49 percent to 48 percent.
