Ex-Trump campaign adviser David Urban suggested that the former president pledge to pardon Hunter Biden, who was convicted Tuesday on federal gun charges.

“Listen, what I’d like to see happen is I’d like to see President Trump come out with a statement saying, ‘Look, if Hunter Biden commits to a program of sobriety, inpatient or maybe outpatient, shows up, keeps his sobriety, I’ll pardon him,’” Urban said on CNN’s “Out Front with Erin Burnett.”

“I’d love for President Trump to say that. It would be a magnanimous offer on his part, shows humanity and, and really flip the tables on the Democrats,” he added.

Urban is a CNN commentator who previously served as a senior adviser to Trump’s campaign in 2016. He has weighed in on the 2024 presidential election before, saying last year that the first GOP presidential primary debate was a “complete train wreck.”

President Biden’s son was found guilty by a jury of Delaware residents on Tuesday of three felony gun charges stemming from a gun purchase made six years ago. Hunter Biden faces a maximum of 25 years in prison and $750,000 in fines, but first-time offenders are rarely handed the maximum penalty.

Biden said he would accept the outcome of his son’s case, emphasizing his love and support for him in a statement following the verdict this week. He has reiterated that he would not pardon his son.

The White House on Wednesday did not rule out whether Biden would commute the sentence of his son.

“I haven’t spoken to the president about this since the verdict came out and as we all know, the sentencing hasn’t even been scheduled yet,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said about a possible commutation.

“He was asked about a pardon, he was asked about the trial specifically and he answered it very clearly, very forthright. As we know, the sentencing hasn’t even been scheduled yet. I don’t have anything beyond what the president said. He’s been very clear about this,” she added.
