Former first lady Melania Trump vowed that the incoming Trump administration will “safeguard the heart of our republic” and push the country forward.

“The majority of Americans have entrusted us with this important responsibility,” she said in a Wednesday post on the social platform X. “We will safeguard the heart of our republic — freedom. I anticipate the citizens of our nation rejoining in commitment to each other and rising above ideology for the sake of individual liberty, economic prosperity, and security.”

“American energy, skill and initiative will bring together our best minds to propel our nation forward forevermore,” she added.

Melania Trump’s statement comes after her husband, President-elect Trump, won the 2024 U.S. presidential election, beating his rival Vice President Harris, and carrying, for now, six out of the seven swing states in the process, according to Decision Desk HQ’s projections. Arizona is still too close to call.

The Democratic nominee spoke with Trump on Wednesday, congratulating him on the election victory and stating that she would work with President Biden to perform a peaceful transfer of power.

“President Trump acknowledged Vice President Harris on her strength, professionalism, and tenacity throughout the campaign, and both leaders agreed on the importance of unifying the country,” said Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign communications director.

Melania Trump, who has hardly made appearances on the campaign trail, made some headlines earlier this year for coming out as a staunch supporter of abortion rights, defending them in her memoir “Melania.”

She has also defended her husband after former White House chief of staff John Kelly told The Atlantic that the former president praised Adolf Hitler’s generals for their loyalty.

“He’s not Hitler, and all of his supporters, [they’re] standing behind him because they want [to] see [the] country successful, and we see how — what kind of support he has,” she told “Fox & Friends” in an interview late last month.
