Former President Trump stopped one of his answers during Thursday night’s presidential debate to tell Vice President Harris that he was speaking, invoking her remarks during her 2020 debate against former Vice President Mike Pence.

Harris, with her microphone muted, said “that’s not true” when Trump said she was in favor of defunding the police.

“I’m talking now, if you don’t mind, please. Does that sound familiar?” Trump said to Harris.

Harris replied “don’t lie” into her muted microphone.

In one of the most notable moments of the vice presidential debate in the last election, Harris told Pence “Mr. Vice President, I’m speaking” to rebuke his interruption. Trump said earlier this month that Harris was “vicious” in how she treated Pence in the debate.

Harris denounced the movement known as “defund the police,” which was popular at the time among progressives, when she joined President Biden’s ticket in 2020 as his running mate. While running for president in the Democratic primary, she tried to straddle the divide on the left over police reform, explaining at the time that police funding has to be put into the broader context.
